November is coming...

Man, you know! I just blinked and August was gone. In fact, most of September is also gone. Yikes!

It's been busy and wet around here, as the entrance of my house one early school morning testifies...

But there have been unexpected moments of peace and sunshine...

And as usual, a liberal sprinkling of blessings...

So I can't complain on the whole! But it's definitely time for something seriously constructive...

Yes, I know that's only in November, but I have been mulling over my plans for a while now. Needless to say I am definitely attempting the challenge again and super keen for it. More details soon, but I am trying to choose between writing a golden age detective novel, or a zombie apocalypse...

Join me?

Yours productively,
jjr

Remember that time when...

...the till at Pick and Pay went on the fritz and started adding VERY EXPENSIVE red cabbages to our grocery shop... LOTS of them!

Great hilarity between ourselves and the staff as they desperately tried to stop the madness (it didn't work), called higher and higher up managers (all while the invisible cabbages continued to mount up) and eventually had to crash the system and had to start ringing up our groceries from scratch on another till!

I guess with 66 giant red cabbages the cabbage party is at our house?

Though maybe we can't afford to have a party now that all our worldly possessions will have to be sold to pay off the cabbages...hmmm...

Certainly provided enough laughter for the weekend!

Pictures from a Sleepy Week

...someone still thinks he's enough of a baby to sleep in dad's marking box..
(it's a bit more crowded than he remembers!)

...Valentine's Day, and a somewhat revamped kitchen...
(plus our special weekend otees!)

...magic on Rondebosch Common...
(remember last time I posted about the Common? quite a contrast!)

Attack on Weathertop - LEGO

I heart LEGO! Recently we've been going a little bit LEGO crazy, especially with the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit series (since I also heart LotR) - this is our newest "investment"...

Old World/New World

Old World/New World

So you may have noticed I have this thing about dream boards at the moment...Discovered a free online tool called Polyvore, which is awesome, fun and easy. It's a bit like going on a shopping spree but without the cashflow dilemmas. Check it out!

*warning* I've also found Polyvore to be mildly addictive...

Baby Gardens

I've been wanting to start growing herbs and vegetables for a while now. In fact, I even started a small herb garden a few years back, but I didn't look after it properly, so it died... Then the other day I inherited some small wooden boxes that my dad made for my sister's play (long story), and I thought:

"What perfect containers for mini gardens"

Second thoughts said:

"No money. No time. The plants will probably die anyway."

Third thoughts said:

"We should all grow vegetables to become eco/sustainable and also healthier...and I have to start somewhere. And besides I WANT to."

Happily, first and third thoughts ganged together to beat second thoughts into submission. So here is the story of my baby gardens.

I went to the garden shop with my mom - who is also en route to a herb/veggie garden.

The boxes needed a teeny bit of adjustment to be perfect...Thanks husband and best man (and still special friend)!

Box one - swiss chard (two types), wild rocket, lemon thyme, broccoli, origanum.

Second box: peppermint and garden mint (yes, I love mint!)

Two beautiful baby gardens by our front door. Can't wait to visit them tomorrow morning!
